ABOUT

BIO

Alexander Stamatiadis (1999, GR) is a Greek-German filmmaker, writer and photographer based in Athens. His artistic practice spans short films, music videos, and commercials, focusing on narrative filmmaking that explores autobiographical schemes varying from cultural heritage and their interconnected nature to the formation of a national and personal identity, to personal or embodied memories resonating with love and loss, moments of rapture or grief and the transformative power of growing with and along vulnerability when the systemic frameworks impose for a living and a being otherwise.
‍
He has collaborations with prominent Greek musicians like Giorgos Mazonakis, Tamta, Good Job Nicky, Sakis Rouvas and others. In his commercial work he has worked with acclaimed brands, such as Vodafone, VISA and Campari. The aforementioned collaborations have enriched his storytelling techniques materially and immaterially with diverse perspectives.

In 2022, he directed the experimental dance short Thorn, which was selected for international festivals including PÖFF Shorts and Aesthetica. His latest film, Atlantic (2025) —a personal coming-of-age short made in close collaboration with cinematographer Thimios Bakatakis —is now on a festival run.

Currently, he is in development of his new short film, Volta. As winter begins on Crete, a man arrives with his dying dog, seeking an ideal resting place — and meets a woman in a seasonal job who becomes part of their journey. Volta is a film that speaks about grief, companionship, and the quiet connections we form in transient places — exploring how even in times of farewell, unexpected encounters can offer solace and meaning.
